The rape of Lucretia
Violeta Siesto plays the role of Lucia in the opera The rape of Lucretia, chamber opera composed in 1946 by Benjamin Britten, with text by Ronald Duncan.
MEET THE CHARACTER
Lucia, the youngest of Lucretia's servants, is an innocent and dreamy soul, brimming with the energy typical of young girls eager to discover life. She barely knows the reality of the outside world and sees in her mistress, Lucretia, the perfect ideal of beauty and virtue, whom she admires with devotion. Through her sung phrases, we discover her deepest longings: she looks forward to the day when someone will love her, while living as the shadow and echo of the chaste Lucretia.
In a world restricted by the walls of her home, Lucia, along with the other women, reluctantly accepts her place, where men decide for them. However, her romantic naivety leads her to dream of an ideal love, imagining that one day the man of her life will knock on her door. What Lucia does not suspect is that the handsome “prince” who will knock on her lady's door that night is only a nobleman by title, and will take away from her and Bianca what they love most.
